Free aptitude test

Free aptitude test: an online mock test with answers

The online assessment is the first round of most fresher hiring drives, and the one that filters out the most people. This free aptitude mock test follows the same pattern — quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and verbal English, each against its own timer — and shows you every answer with a worked solution when you finish.

For final-year students, recent graduates and anyone preparing for a campus or off-campus placement test. A free account saves your result; no payment needed.

How the mock test works

  • 40 multiple-choice questions, one mark each, with no negative marking — an unanswered question scores the same as a wrong one, so answer every question.
  • The three sections run one after another, each on its own timer: 45 minutes in all. When a section’s time runs out, the test moves on to the next.
  • Within a section you can skip, mark questions for review and come back to them before its time is up.
  • Every paper is drawn fresh, with the same mix of easy, medium and hard questions, so your score compares fairly with anyone else’s.
  • The clock is kept on our side, not in your browser. Closing the tab does not pause it, so take the test when you have 45 minutes free.

Sample aptitude questions with answers

One question from each section, at the level of the medium questions in the test.

  1. Quantitative aptitude: A train 150 metres long passes a signal pole in 10 seconds. What is its speed in km/h?

    Options: 45 km/h · 54 km/h · 60 km/h · 72 km/h

    Answer: 54 km/h. Speed = 150 m ÷ 10 s = 15 m/s. To convert m/s to km/h, multiply by 18/5: 15 × 18/5 = 54 km/h.

  2. Logical reasoning: Aman walks 4 km north, turns right and walks 3 km. How far is he from where he started?

    Options: 5 km · 6 km · 7 km · 1 km

Answer: 5 km. Turning right from north means walking east. North and east are at right angles, so the distance is √(4² + 3²) = √25 = 5 km.

  3. Verbal English: Choose the word closest in meaning to CANDID.

Options: Frank · Careful · Bitter · Shy

Answer: Frank. Candid means open and honest in what you say, which is what frank means.

Your result, question by question

The moment you submit, you see:

  • Your score out of 40, and for each section.
  • A topic-by-topic breakdown, so you can see that you lose marks on time and work rather than on aptitude in general.
  • Every question with your answer, the correct answer and a worked solution.

How to use it for aptitude practice

  • Take the test once cold, before you study. The topic breakdown tells you where to spend your practice time, which is worth more than working through a book from page one.
  • Learn the shortcuts for the topics that cost you marks: percentage-to-fraction conversions, the 18/5 speed conversion, LCM for time and work.
  • Practise against the clock. Placement tests filter on volume, and most candidates who fall short know the method but run out of time.
  • Read the worked solution for every question you got wrong, and for every one you guessed right.

Questions about the free aptitude test

Is the aptitude test really free?

Yes. You need a free 99Interview account to take it, so your result is saved, but there is no payment and no card details are asked for.

How long is the test, and is there negative marking?

45 minutes for 40 questions: aptitude 18 minutes, reasoning 17 and verbal 10. There is no negative marking, so answer every question.

Can I pause the test?

No. Each section’s timer keeps running once it starts, even if you close the tab, as it would in a real online assessment. If you are disconnected, sign in again and you return to where you were with the time that is left.

Can I take it more than once?

The number of free attempts on your account is shown before you start. When you have more than one, each new attempt gives you questions you have not seen before.

Does it have coding questions?

No. It covers the aptitude, reasoning and verbal part of an online assessment. Coding and technical questions are what the interview after it is about — you can practise those in a round with Sia, our AI interviewer, or in a live interview with an engineer.

Which companies’ tests is it like?

Most campus and off-campus drives for freshers open with an online test of this kind — aptitude, reasoning and verbal English under a section timer. The exact question count and timing vary by company; this test follows the common pattern rather than copying any one company’s paper.
